The wound of the land
Nassrin Vassalian
Latex, acrylic resin, acrylic paint ,band aids
We are in an everlasting embrace of pain. Our living and geo-specific experiences have given rise to a collective wail. Our minds are raked. Every moment, a fresh wound, beyond healing, finds our souls, when we suffer within our own borders, when our flagging identity meets what is left of our civil rights. I have tried to elicit a sense of injury in the audience who, like me, may carry an account of wounds. I wanted to establish an immediate contact between the jewels and the skin, in an interaction that would expand the concept and function of jewelry. I wanted to make jewelry part of the body and place the body in a different position: body as a self-conscious work of art.
