Re:Mains is a collection of jewellery and objects created using food waste, such as vegetable peel and fruit stones. This collection seeks to highlight environmental and social issues around consumption by defamilarising everyday organic substances through denaturing processes and the materials’ re-presentation as jewellery. The aim is also to explore abject associations and to question the nebulous, somewhat indefinable nature of body boundary. The degradable materials’ limited lifespan highlights the fleeting and complex nature of human existence and the passing of time, suggesting the ultimate end that conventional jewellery circumvents through its endurance.
