Human rights context:
Contraceptive pills and abortion pills are available since more than half a century. In many countries around the globe women are not found fit to decide how, when and if to use them. Moreover, in our current times international cooperation make anti abortion lobby more professional and pro life activism more aggressive, , while bodily integrity is a basic human right.
Social context:
Men largely give contraceptive decision-making power over to women, putting the burden of pregnancy prevention onto women and letting men off the hook. It is concluded that men’s negotiation of these competing norms reinforces unequal power and inequality in hetero sexual relationships.
Environment context:
Former US vice president and global-warming-expert Al Gore states: "Population growth is straining the Earth’s resources to the breaking point, and educating girls is the single most important factor in stabilizing that. That, plus helping women gain political and economic power, and safeguarding their reproductive rights."
(I only like to add that we should not leave the boys and men out of the educating part ;p)
