Metaphors of pain

Vesal Bahmani Nik

Iran

2018

This is a survey on one of the most crucial religious mourning ceremonies, A’ashura, which is held for ten days, every year all over my country, by religious people who mourn on martyrs of Karbala, the tradition which contains self-harm. The hand objects part of video installations, which require facing those religious people who choose voluntary pain infliction to express their sorrow, punish themselves for the sake of purification and protecting themselves against the greater pain over their sins, by God, in the life after death. The self-harm which has a tremendous negative impact on the rest of the society as observers of this violence in public. The works which have been made of a material which react to their action, stone as the hard material which tries to show them the chance of thinking.
