Little Piece of Incredible Heaviness
Stephie Morawetz
Marble, slate, silver, steel
A phenomenon spreads in the field of contemporary jewelry, that a separation between the piece of jewelry and the body happens. Jewelry is not made anymore in relation to the body, it is made for a vitrine. But how can we talk about jewelry, if the actual piece never got in contact with the body, neither physically nor metaphorically? With this pieces I want to ask the questions: What is contemporary jewelry? What is wearable? And Does jewelry needs the body? With a weight of 800g the brooches are to heavy to wear. The weight will destroy your clothes if you try to wear them. So is it still jewelry, or is it only meant to be in a vitrine?
