Does the Carpet Match the Drapes?
Laura Jack
A feminist piece made to comment on society?s view of body hair and femininity, the hair is replaced with chain and made into Jewelry pieces to be worn like an accessory. This piece came about because the chain spoke to Laura of hair when she was going through the factory and picking it up and playing with it at Jakob Bengel. The industrial quality spoke to her of a hardness and permanence that goes against conventional ideas of femininity. The title itself is also a play on a tasteless misogynistic phrase that is often used to question how natural the colour of a woman?s hair is and appropriated to reclaim that space and put a new narrative to it.
